You've booked the cab — now a few simple habits make the ride safe and stress-free, especially late at night.

Check it's your car

• For private hire, confirm the driver has your name or booking before you get in — pre-booked cars are not insured to pick up as street hails.
• Check the car matches the make, model or registration the firm gave you.
• Licensed vehicles display a council licence plate; drivers carry an ID badge.

On the journey

• Sit in the back if you're travelling alone, and wear your seatbelt.
• Share your live location or trip details with someone you trust.
• Keep bags with you rather than in the boot if you have a tight connection.
• You can ask the driver to adjust the route, temperature or music — it's your ride.

Paying

Confirm the fare and payment method early. Most Norwich firms take card as well as cash; ask for a receipt if you need one.
